Heartbreaking Obstacles

“History has demonstrated that the most notable winners usually encountered heartbreaking obstacles before they triumphed. They won because they refused to become discouraged by their defeats.”

Bertie C. Forbes

The true measure of a man…

“The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good.”

YOU CAN HAVE EVERYTHING IN LIFE YOU WANT, IF YOU WILL JUST HELP ENOUGH OTHER PEOPLE GET WHAT THEY WANT.

Positive Attitude + Business = Success

Many years ago, a large American shoe manufacturer sent two sales reps out to different parts of the Australian outback to see if they could drum up some business among the aborigines. Some time later, the company received telegrams from both agents. The first one said, “No business here…natives don’t wear shoes.” The second one said, “Great opportunity here…natives don’t wear shoes!”

Social Responsibility and a Little Boy

In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10-year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him. “How much is an ice cream sundae?” he asked.

“Fifty cents,” replied the waitress.

The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and studied the coins in it. “Well, how much is a plain dish of ice cream?” he inquired. By now, more people were waiting for a table and the waitress was growing impatient.

“Thirty-five cents,” she brusquely replied.

The little boy again counted his coins. “I’ll have the plain ice cream,” he said.

The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice cream, paid the cashier and left. When the waitress came back, she began to cry as she wiped down the table. There, placed neatly beside the empty dish, were two nickels and five pennies. You see, he couldn’t have the sundae, because he had to have enough left to leave her a tip.

Class

You must be proud of who you are.  Pride in oneself is developed through the consistent effort of doing things first class.  Class is who you are, the way you project yourself.  Class can not be bought or sold.  It is the way you act, the way you dress, the way you speak, the way you live.  Class is doing things correctly.  Class is that attitude and commitment to being the best that you can be in thought, word, and deed.

Commitment

The desire to succeed, the determination to reach your goals, and the discipline to perform even when you don’t feel like performing, is the essence of commitment.  The ability to perform the most meaningless task “well”, to pay close attention to every little detail, and to do it honestly and with integrity is the sign of commitment.  To make whatever sacrifices necessary to attain your goals.  To commit yourself totally without reservation.  Only when you make that “commitment” can you truly be successful.

The Power of Belief

“Believe in yourself.  You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you stop to look fear in the face…You must do that which you think you cannot do.”

Eleanor Roosevelt
